The secret to this one is a media site specifically for the travel industry. You actually pay to be a member but I was enjoying a free trial for a month. Journalists send out requests for information for specific travel articles they are writing. I must have replied to around 20+ requests with quite detailed, quite pertinent responses. Invariably none of them every reply - I would guess maybe three or four have. And it seems that what I send is falling on completely deaf ears. Anyway, just spotted this one success (the journalist didn't reply to me, but in this instance it appears she liked what I wrote). I'm now in a quandary as to whether it's worth the effort of replying to all of these requests but then, when you get just one success like this, it spurs you on once more and makes you think that perhaps it is worth it afterall.

I somehow missed your posting earlier, Paul, but it's a fun competition so here's my update.

A spectacular case of shooting myself in the foot. I was looking at some stuff on the Guardian today and recognised the name of one of the writers as being one of my contacts. Then I remembered that I'd complained to the person about all the messages of unsolicited self-promotion they were sending me by PM (on another forum). My complaint wasn't well-received. Laughing

And now for the good news:

Not Delia has been quoted (with a link to ND) on the outside back cover of a book which I predict is going to become very popular. That sort of publicity fell into my lap, I wouldn't have thought of it for myself. Gotta step up a gear and get a review of the book on ND ASAP.

Oooh... great stuff! What's the book?

I'm hoping for another mention for Kendal Cottages in The Times. Before too long there could be an article in the travel section of The Times about places to stay by the water (lakes, rivers, etc. but not beaches). I may or may not get a mention.

It's a cookbook which is very innovative and has been created by some incredibly talented people. I got a sneak preview before it was published (in the form of a PDF of a sample chapter) and asked for a brief opinion/quote before they went to print. I eagerly complied with their request - it's a great book.

I've since (today) received a copy of the book itself and am mightily impressed by it. Book review coming soon - I don't want to say too much until I've done my review. Very Happy

A while ago the author contacted us after reading our Physiobench articles which were about taking kids into the outdoors and making sure the backpack was fitted right

18 months later we received a complimentary copy of this book as we were a contributor. It mentioned our business.

In fact there's a piccie of me bringing my kids up a rockclimb on a rope & another of me with my youngest on a trailgator attaching his bike to the back of my bike

Martyn Very Happy

May I claim my prize retrospectively? BE got a mention and a link on the Guardian on 4th Dec. 2009. (I didn't notice it until now.) Paul claimed the prize in March 2010. So really I was first past the post. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Sorry, Kay... missed this one.

Congrats. 200 ants are on their way.

However, I do wonder if that was supposed to be the plural of your domain in that article... what do you think?

Having said that, they all count. Wink

Thanks for the ants!

They might have meant the plural. When the Guardian interviewed me personally for a Marmite article, they quoted my name and then linked to the wrong site. It works both ways I guess.

We also get plenty of contact message about expat sites which are nothing to do with us at all - most of them complaints. Confused

We're amazed at how many people actually read this newspaper. So many people (that we know) have stopped us and said "we saw you in the Gazette"...

I just wish I knew how to now make it go 'national'...!
