Hi there,

When you receive a cold call and the sales rep says "How are you?" after the introduction does it make you angry? After all, they dont even know you!

Do you use it in your cold calls?

Would love to hear your views of whether it's "IN" or "OUT"

Thanks

jenny

Yes. Why would someone who doesn't know me ask how I am? What do they know or care about me?

Cold calls make me angry full stop. No matter what they say. It's just like spam but by another medium.

Should really have an option of "I don't cold call" but anyway, it's always highly suspicious and they'd probably get a lot further if they didn't ask that....well 10 seconds more anyway. Smile

Luckily we seem to be off the lists now as we get virtually non of them, probably due to the nice TPS list. Handy really as it means we can get on with the day. Just need a list like that for door to door sales, especially electric / gas.

Btw, anyone know of any tricks to disable the line of cold callers? Way back there used to be various tricks to do with carrier waves for getting free calls, so I always guessed there might be a secret "turn calling line off for testing" or similar tone you can send the exchange.

My favourite trick to stop them is to keep the phone switched off. Twisted Evil I know it's not an option for a lot of businesses, but it works for me.

I think it has been mentioned on here before, but we (have to get used to not saying I as I don't answer the phones directly) have a technique of putting the receiver next to the TV with the parliamentary channel on. Not sure if I'm encroaching on the BBC but the calls have dropped considerably to about 3 a week from 8 a day. One thing to note the fake share dealers are back on the prowl, as well as the Xmas books.
The scam is they say someone in the company agreed to be in the book in Jan /Feb. and this is to confirm. Then they bill you 800 to 2000. I beat this by having a reference all my suppliers know to quote, no reference no deal. It was easier when I was the only person and knew that I had never agreed to anything.
Spread the word, but not with a cold call.

It's actually quite handy when strangers phone up and say "How are you?"

It tells me instantly that it's a sales call so I hang up without further ado. Twisted Evil

I would stop the call by telling them I am too busy.
