What do you think about Mac computers?

Do you think they are worth buying even though they cost much more than a Windows PC?

Yuck...yuck...yuck...yuck...that's like buying a Skoda GTi - it's still a Skoda at the end of the day and it's still going to be bad, but just might look prettier. Smile

I've had to use them a few times in my life and they are horrible. If you thought Windows was all controlling, you ain't seen nothing until you experience a Mac OS. Plus they've still (generally) only got one mouse button....how the heck do they expect to get ahead with that!?

All the Mac users or at least the ones not too ashamed will no doubt come out and support it, but why would you want a computer that's more expensive, harder to upgrade, has a horrifically buggy OS and doesn't run most of your current software except under emulation mode (not good!). If they made WINE for the Mac then it might work, but from what I hear it's not very good with Windows programs.

Oh and it's green, blue, red or summut too. You know they're desperate if the most important thing about a computer they can advertise is the colour of the case...!

It's like a Merc not a Skoda

Possibly the most stylish and sensible computer I have ever had. I am a long time windows user and now have my first mac. It's light years ahead of windows in terms of sensibility.

At file level it's perfectly compatible with most windows applications

Cheers

Pete

If you want sensible - buy SUSE Linux with KDE desktop and WINE for Windows apps. then you don't have to suffer the Mac. Smile

I still don't like the way Windows doesn't let you into the guts of the system like it used to, but as I understand it with a Mac there's even less control. Never trust a computer that doesn't give you control.

I kind of like it actually. But the major downside is the price. You can get a better performance for the same price. So why would you want to buy it?

I went from PC to Mac then quickly back to PC. I'm a graphic design and photography professional.

That's interesting. I thought that many graphic designers and photographers use Mac.

It's a industry full of pretentious ponces. Wink Wink I prefer practicality and getting the job done.

A PC does that more than adequately but without the expense.

I heard the same thing too about 4 years ago. Maybe they're both equal now.

no WAYYYY! ok hope i don't offend anyone this is purely my personal opinion but PCs are USELESS Rolling Eyes i'm a photographer and i too had been a diehard PC user til march this year. I was having loads of trouble imnporting my RAW files (on average 8-10G worth) through a program called Lightroom it was taking HOURS (4-6 hours! that's before i get to even see the filews to edit) and then it'll crash Evil or Very Mad and just struggling with it.

Anyway after lots of reseach and talking to peop-le in the field i finally got myself a Macbook and Waala! All my problems solved ~! Runs like a dream!

PCs just aren't build for projects that deals with large images, graph files Wink

Well, I must be hallucinating as mine tears through files Gbs+. Perhaps it was Lightroom at fault?

People who have problems with PCs/Windows are generally luddites, are asking too much of a poorly spec'd system they've bought or using one that's auto-loaded with crap from the factory.

I always used PC until 2008 then I got a Macbook Pro second hand off eBay...

It frustrated the hell out of me. Everything was in a different place. The shortcuts were all over the place, I couldn't find much freeware for simple; it was alien and Parallels was crap. I missed a few Windows apps that wouldnt run on my Mac and parallels was troublesome.

Roll on a month & I was a lot happier....I month later I was a convert. Six months later an iphone.

I love my Macbook Pro - the same one I bought in 2008 (it is a 2006 production). So its 4 years old and it still rocks. Everything is so smooth. It never gets sick (its online about 14hrs per day 6 days a week), no viruses. I never get frustrated with it. Applications install almost instantly. It starts in several seconds.

After all the initial frustration I am a complete convert - this short post doesn't even come close to saying how happy I am with Apple products!

Hmm, just like my PC.
