|Had an e-mail from Enom with whom I've got a few domains registered saying that some of them were about to expire. Odd I thought as most are on auto-renew so I went in and found almost all of them had .info domains along with the .com versions.
I was 99% sure I'd never authorised those and I began to wonder if someone had hacked the account, or if Enom was making a major mistake, but the domains all have my contact details on them and any domains I have would be on auto-renew.
I was even more baffled when I found they were registered through Sipence, Inc. and not Enom, but after much searching it appears they are freebies to promote the .info TLD although I don't know whether it's only Enom doing this or other people.
This could however backfire in both extra admin time as they've never told me about these domains, and people not being able to register the .info they want as it's automatically assigned to someone who doesn't want it. In that case people are going to pick another domain and when this one expires .info have lost out on a real sale.
Final bizare thing is the domains appear to be created last September, but they weren't listed 2 months ago so someone is fiddling with the whois details so they'll be up for renewal less than 2 months after being registered.
I'll be interested to see if the 200+ domains we've got with Enom at work also get free .info domains...
