1 GB bandwidth isn't much (assuming that's per month?), especially if your diskspace is that large also.

We have our own dedicated servers, but I suspect we'd be out of your price bracket. Remember, though, price isn't everything...

Hi,

1gb space, with 1 gb data transfer for US $200/year

Sounds kinda steep in price to me.

Kind of hard to say if the price is right, not knowing if you use

1. PHP
2. Other scripting languages like perl, python, etc.
3. DB
3.2. How many DBs

1Gb disk with 1Gb bandwidth for $200/year is absurd unless you are with the absolute gold standard, ie the shared hosting equivalent of Rackspace - but I'm not sure who that'd be (Rackspace only do dedicated servers).

Pretty impressive huh? I'm guessing they're gearing up for major uptake in video usage.

400 Gigs!? That's I think twice what our entire Amy server has available which hosts this site and that server costs a lot more than $7.95 a month!

One thing I'd like to know before launching anything on that is what their network throughput is like, ie: do they throttle the amount you can transfer every second like some of these "unlimited bandwidth" options? Or is there an "acceptable usage limit" imposed on the account?

Unless they are just relying on most people simply never reaching that amount, a bit like these accounts with absolutely huge amounts of disk space. It would take some doing normally - for example AardvarkTravel this month has used about 45Gigs and this site has only used about 10Gigs, although they are both basically text.

I wouldn't even imagine Google offering that much transfer if they did Google Hosting (doubt they will) and they own a lot of pottential bandwidth.

They're probably paying around $15/mbit, so that's just over $15/mo for each customer if every one uses the full 400Gb, which they probably don't.

They're a well-known company and, like Dreamhost, are advertising via insane plans. In reality people never use them - but the numbers catch the eye.

And if every account did use 400Gb/mo, or even 300Gb/mo, they'd need some extremely powerful servers, or a very large-scale setup, to even hope of breaking even.

I don't doubt their ability to host it, but I do doubt that people will use anything near what they pay for - our clients use probably 20% of their allocation...only a very few exceed that.

But in the US especially servers can be rented with 1Tb, 2Tb/mo, and also unmetered boxes on a 10mbit / 20mbit+ connection - of course you pay for that, but still, it's dirt cheap. Lovely Cogent bandwidth, mmmmm.

It'd be interesting to know Lunarpages' usage statistics, that's for sure!
